I’m Amy Decker, and if there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that I believe life is too short for bad wine, boring tablescapes, or stressful dinner parties. Whether I’m hosting a last-minute neighborhood gathering in Old Town Alexandria or an elaborate multi-course gala, my goal is always the same: make it look effortless, make it delicious, and make sure the Champagne is flowing.

From Situational Awareness to Social Elegance

You could say I learned to host in a slightly… unconventional environment. Before I settled into my forever home with my husband, Alex, I spent years as an officer with the CIA. 

In that world, "hosting" wasn't just about the perfect centerpiece. It was about diplomacy, precision, and the occasional high-stakes dinner for foreign partners and heads of state. I’ve orchestrated events from inception to conclusion—managing everything from high-level security protocols and sensitive intelligence reports to the exact pattern of the dinnerware and the vintage of the wine.

Whether I was hosting a key country leader in my own living room on an hour's notice or coordinating an event halfway across the globe, I learned that the secret to a successful mission is the same as a successful party: preparation, poise, and a really good cheese plate.

My Passport is My Pantry

When I’m not serving on the board of my favorite local women’s non-profit or covered in paint in my studio, you’ll likely find me in the middle of a vineyard. I travel the world—not just to see the sights, but to take cooking classes and explore wine regions from Tuscany to Tasmania.
